About Bryan & Dena Haines
Bryan and I moved to Ecuador from Canada in 2009 with our daughter, who was then eight years old. We love to travel as a family; we’ve traveled throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean and South America.
Bryan writes for About.com (part of The New York Times Company) as the online business journalist. I am a freelance travel writer, and together we created and manage GringosAbroad.com a blog about travel and life in Ecuador. We also write about how to earn a living abroad on BloggerAbroad.com
Drew, who writes the Galapagos For Kids series also runs her own blog: CultureSponge.com

Hey you guys! We just discovered this website while researching the places ”Flat C.” is visiting!! Imagine our surprise when we recognised you!! Beautiful pics.
Your friends in N.S. xo
Very nice – we’ve been writing for and managing the Red Mangrove blog since August of last year. We are just working out timing but we’ll be bringing Flat C to the Galapagos within the next month or so.
For our readers who don’t know what/who Flat C. is: it is a project of a young girl in Nova Scotia based on the Flat Stanley book series – about a boy who gets flattened and then mails himself around the world. We are showing Flat C around Ecuador and the Galapagos. We are taking pictures and after the tour is finished, we’ll email all the travel photos back to Nova Scotia.
Hi Bryan & Dena! I just watched your HGTV house hunters international episode. You were so brave! I have a 9 year old as well and only dream about moving and starting over like you have. Inspirational story for sure!
Thanks so much! The show was a blast and was (more or less) a reenactment of our actual story. Here is a little more on the House Hunters episode

BRIAN & DENA ……..YOUR BLOG AND PHOTOS ARE EXCELLENT …YOU’RE DOING A SUPER JOB …….I REALLY ENJOY YOUR FORMAT …AND YOU SHOULD ENLIST ADVERTIZERS FOR THE “RIDE”. I’M AN

THE GALAPAGOS ARE IN MY “BUCKET LIST” ..SO WILL PLAN FOR THAT, AND A “LAND STAY”, MAYBE ”THE RED MANGROVE”. ARE THERE OTHER ALTERNATIVES, THAT ARE LESS EXPENSIVE ? IS OCT.-NOV. A GOOD TIME, WEATHER WISE ? WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR OF “LONESOME GEORGES’S ” DEMISE …….I’LL BE THERE SHORTLY, AS WE WILL ALL BE… .I HAVE NO REGRETS …IF I’D BEEN BORN IN 1472, I’D HAVE BEEN ON ONE OF “CRIS’S” BOATS , 20Y LATER, HEADED FOR THE NEW AMERICAS ….I DO HAVE A 100TON U.S. COAST GUARD CAPTAINS LIC. BUT, IT NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE WORLD BEING FLAT ! THE OLD MAN, MEMO from Seattle, Wa. (billwko@msn.com)
Thanks for your comments Bill.
As a photographer, you’ll love the Galapagos. It is amazing. The best time of year really depends on what you like. There are benefits to each time of year.
All the best on your plans!

Bryan & Dena, my husband and I cant wait to visit Galapagos! We want to stay in the towns, experience local food and culture instead of spending time on a cruise boat. Do you recommend this? where would you suggest we look for lodging that can accommodate this?
I recommend that you contact Red Mangrove http://www.redmangrove.com/contact-us/ They have hotels on three of the islands. It is the best way to see the local food and culture.
