A nice way to end a day on Santa Cruz is a visit to the fish market. While it is very popular among tourists it is actually a functioning fish market - both for local families and restaurants. If the fisherman are working (ie. cleaning and selling their catch) you can count on seeing a few sea lions and pelicans. We’ve even seen a young sea lion pup there a few times.
Fresh fish and hungry sea lions makes for an interesting mix. In this video a smaller and sneakier sea lion grabs some fish skin out of the hand of the fisherman – and from under the nose of the patiently waiting larger sea lion.
