Slow and Steady – Galapagos Giant Tortoise, Charles Darwin Research Station: HD Video
Here is a pretty great video of a Giant Tortoise walking over the rough terrain of his enclosure at the Charles Darwin Research Station. The Research Station is located on Santa Cruz Island, just a five minute walk from Red Mangrove’s Aventura Lodge.
When this was filmed, visitors were still permitted to enter the enclosures and get fairly close to the tortoises. Its difficult in a photo to capture their massiveness – but the video seems to do him justice. The captive tortoises at the Research Station were noticeably more lethargic than their wild-and-free cousins just a 30-minute-drive away at the Tortoise Ranch.
