We passed this old cactus on our way to Las Grietas – a great swim spot on Santa Cruz Island. These prickly giants can live up to 200 years and are quite impressive to see in real life. As they age, the truck changes appearance from a cactus to more of a tree truck, complete with bark. They are very common in the Galapagos and can be seen in every stage of development – from small to huge old ones.
Once they die and fall over, they make a tasty treat for giant tortoises.
