Until we saw this large and rather bold one, we hadn’t seen a Great Blue Heron since we left Canada years ago. They are a very common sight in Nova Scotia, where sometimes lakes will be full of them. This one flew in and landed on one of the umbrellas on the deck of the Aventura Lodge in Puerto Ayora.

This was actually the only one we’ve seen during our trips to the Galapagos. And we didn’t even have to go looking for it – it came to us!
