When you go SCUBA diving in the Galapagos, especially when you are surrounded by sharks, brilliantly colored fish and playful sea lions, safety might be the last thing on your mind.
But in the worst case scenario, it is nice to know that your dive operator is prepared in the event of a diving accident. I took my SCUBA course at the Red Mangrove Dive Center, and was very reassured to meet their on-staff doctor, the friendly Dr. Carola Amoroso.
She told me about life in the Galapagos, and showed me the new on-site hyperbaric chamber.
Meet Dr. Amoroso
Dr. Carola Amorosa is Red Mangrove’s on-staff doctor. She practices general medicine and hyperbaric medicine.
Where are you from?
What do you like to do for fun here?
I like to exercise, so every day I go for a run and to the pool and the beach.
How do you like living in the Galapagos?
I really love Galapagos, it’s a really great place and the thing I really like is it’s really safe. You can walk on the street the whole night and it’s fine. The culture is really great. The people are really kind and polite and if you need help, they are really willing to help.
