CLIMATE

The climate for visiting the Galapagos is ideal no matter what time of year it happens to be. The Galapagos climate can be divided into two seasons. The hot season spans from December to May where there is a possibil¬ity of heavy showers. The cool garua (mist) season takes place from June to November where the days are generally cloudier and there is often a period of rain or drizzle. Jul and Aug can be windy, force 4 or 5. In traveling to the islands day¬time clothing should be lightweight. (Clothing even on luxury cruises' should be casual and comfortable.) At night, however, particularly at sea and at higher altitudes, tem¬peratures fall below 15°C and warm clothing is required. Boots and shoes soon are a necessity on the lava terrain. The sea is colder July through October and underwater visibility is best between January and March. Ocean tempera¬tures are usually warmer to the east and colder near the western end of the archipelago. The islands climate and hence its wildlife are influenced by the El Nino phenomenon. Despite all these variations, conditions are generally favorable for visiting Galapagos any time of the year.
