My 29 Firsts Exploring the Galapagos Islands

A trip to the Galapagos means experiencing many new things for the first time.  When our family (Bryan and I, along with our daughter Drew) visited we enjoyed experiencing theses firsts together.  We often talk about all the new things we saw and did.

I decided to write some of my firsts down, and I was surprised to see how long the list was. Here is the list I came up with.

My 29 Galapagos Firsts:

  1. Hiked up a volcano (Sierra Negra, Isabela Island)
  2. Heard myself say “Drew don’t stand too close to the edge of that caldera” (Isabela Island)
  3. Shared the breakfast table with a bird (Floreana Island)finch-dining-on-floreana-island
  4. Walked around collapsed volcanoes (Santa Cruz Island)
  5. Snorkeled where I knew (for sure) there were Sharks near by (I have a phobia) (Isabela Island)
  6. Took a high-powered boat ride through open water (between Islands)
  7. Taught my daughter to snorkel (Isabella Island)snorkeling-isabela-island
  8. Walked around with wild Galapagos Tortoises (Santa Cruz Island)
  9. Heard myself say “Drew don’t touch that Giant Tortoise” (Santa Cruz Island)
  10. Saw Frigate Birds (from a boat looking at Tortoise Island just off the coast of Isabela Island)
  11. Saw Galapagos Finches, and tons of other Finches (Santa Cruz, Floreana, Isabela Islands)

  19. Went somewhere I always wanted to go, but never thought I really would (The Galapagos Islands!!!)
  20. Slept on an Island with only 125 inhabitants (Floreana Island)
  21. Saw wild Flamingos (Isabela Island)
  22. Saw a Sea Lion chase away a bunch of hungry Pelicans (Santa Cruz Island)
  23. Heard myself say “Drew don’t touch that Sea Lion” (Santa Cruz Island)
  24. Saw baby tortoises (Santa Cruz Island)
  25. Saw Blue Footed Boobies (Isabela Island)
  26. Saw a little bird hop on top of and start picking at the skin of a Marine Iguana (Santa Cruz Island)
  27. Walked through a lava tunnel (Santa Cruz Island)
  28. Heard myself say “Drew don’t fall on those lava rocks.” (Santa Cruz, Floreana, Isabela Islands)
