Olga Fisch Folklore: Unique Ecuadorian Products in the Galapagos

When we plan a vacation we always want to bring back a souvenir or two. Our trip to the Galapagos was no exception, and we found a lot of nice shops to choose from in Puerto Ayora, a lovely town overlooking Academy Bay on Santa Cruz Island.

One Of The Unique Shops In Puerto Ayora

One of the artisan shops we liked is called Olga Fisch Folklore. They had a lot of unique items to choose from. I enjoyed looking at the jewelry, panama hats, different kinds of coffee and chocolate, leather items, scarves and sweaters. There were also woven rugs, ceramics, hand made ornaments, journals, books and many other items.

The shop itself is built in a unique way and made shopping there even more interesting. The sidewalk outside of the shop is a mosaic of different shaped and colored tile. The walkway heading to the main door continues with the mosaic and curves through a garden with a small sitting area. Our daughter rested on the bench outside while we finished looking around inside, she is not much of a shopper so that sitting area was a welcome retreat.

Just A Short Walk From Aventura Lodge

Olga Fisch is only about a 5 minute walk from the Red Mangrove Aventura lodge where we were staying. It was nice to be able to go for a short walk and do a bit of shopping. We went before lunch one day and I picked up a book written by Margret Wittmer about Floreana Island. She was one of Floreana’s first inhabitants, her family still lives there.

We were talking to a couple of the employees at Olga Fisch and they told us that there is also an Olga Fisch location in Quito. I’m not sure if they would carry the same items or not. Almost everything there looked unique to me, kind of like if I saw something I wanted I should buy it because I might not find it anywhere else.

Like my daughter, I’m not much of a shopper, but I find shops like Olga Fisch are more like an art gallery than a store you would find in a shopping mall. Just spending some relaxing time looking at all the handmade items was a treat.

This is the blog of Red Mangrove, not Olga fisch folklore. You could contact them directly for the coffee. Good luck! Lisa
