On this adventure, you’ll visit three islands: San Cristobal, Isabela and Santa Cruz, where you will see lots of land and marine animals, endemic plants and amazing landscapes.

San Cristobal (also called Chatham Island) is one of the oldest of the Galapagos islands that is still above water. It is made up of 3 or 4 volcanoes (all extinct). This is the island where Darwin first went ashore in 1835. Santa Cruz (also called Indefatigable) is a large dormant volcano situated in the center of the Archipelago, and is the second largest island in the Galapagos. Isabela (also called Albemarle) is the largest island of the Galapagos, and is famous because of its sea horse shape. Isabela is one of the youngest islands, formed by the merger of 6 shield volcanoes.

Lunch included

San Cristobal 1

Afternoon: Visit Tijeretas and Playa Mann

Cerro Tijeretas gets its name from the frigate birds (also called Tijeretas) because of the shape of its tail. This is the only place where you can see two species of this bird nesting in the same colony.

Along this 3.5 km hike, you will have an impressive view of the bay on one side and the town from the other. You will walk through a dry forest area with cacti, acacia trees and lava lizards. You will also see points of interest such as an old artillery piece and a statue of Charles Darwin.

You will visit a small, nearly enclosed lagoon that is perfect for snorkeling in calm waters. There are no waves or current, just underwater rocks with lots of fish and marine life.

Visit The Interpretation Center and Galapaguera to see giant tortoises in captivity, along with many birds. This center represents the movement to protect the wildlife and natural environment of the Galapagos Islands.

Relax at Playa Mann, a white sand beach formed by the fragmentation of shells. The clarity of water is great for snorkeling.

During this tour you will have chances to see many species of birds, sea lions, dolphins, lizards, and to share the water with amazing marine life.

Briefing about our visit to Leon Dormido.

Dinner at a local restaurant, and overnight the hotel.

This is a sea lion resting place. And a nesting area for frigate and blue footed boobies.

As you travel to Kicker Rock, you will be informed about the site and the snorkeling route. You will have chances to see an array of sharks, schools of colored tropical fish, spotted eagle rays, hammerhead sharks, marine turtles, and sea lions.

Galapagos All-inclusive

Afternoon: This afternoon the adventure starts with a trip to Los Gemelos (The Twins), two enormous collapsed lava chambers. These are a wonderful introduction to the majestic power of the forces of nature and the great biodiversity of the Santa Cruz Highlands.

On this short, easy hike to each of the twins you’ll see many endemic flora and fauna, including a remnant of a Scalesia Forest, draped in liverwort, lichens and mosses, where it’s easy to spot some Darwin finches and perhaps the short eared owls.

After Los Gemelos, a short bus ride will take you to a 600-acre private reserve where the giant Galapagos tortoises freely roam, graze, and sleep. It can be a bit muddy here, so we provide a selection of rubber field boots (Wellington boots), including large sizes for men.

Walking among the tortoises in the wild may be one of the most treasured moments of your trip.

After visiting these prehistoric creatures in their natural habitat, we’ll take a 5-minute ride to the entrance of a 450-meter (1350 feet) illuminated lava tunnel. With a ceiling nearly 20 feet high in most places, this is an incredible opportunity see lava stalagmites, stalactites, sulfur, mineral-colored walls, and the rippled floor formed from lava.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel

Day 5: Isabela

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Breakfast at the lodge.

Early departure to Sierra Negra Volcano. We’ll head through the humid highlands of Isabela, to the slopes of Volcan Sierra Negra in local truck taxis. Sierra Negra is considered the second largest active crater in the world. The size of the Sierra Negra Caldera is 7.2 x 9.3 km (4.5 x 5.8 miles). The largest is Ngorongoro in Tanzania.

Sierra Negra Volcano Caldera

On October 22, 2005 an eruption, that lasted one week, occurred in the northeast side of the caldera of Sierra Negra volcano. The lava flow covered much of the interior of the caldera and in some places rose more than two meters.

After walking along the caldera on an easy trail, we will relax a bit and have a snack at the Jaboncillo tree.

If we have the energy, we can continue to Volcan Chico, an otherworldly landscape with fumaroles and amazing lava formations. From here, the landscape is more than spectacular. Total hike from the starting point to Volcan Chico is 8 km.
