Tijeretas/ Playa Man

51GPS_AVECerro Tijeretas gets it´s name from the Frigate Birds, also called Tijeretas because of the shape of its tails. This is the only place where you have chances to see two species of this birds nesting in the same colony.

Along this 3.5 kms hike, you will have an impressive view of the bay from one side, and the town from the other You will walk through a dry forest area with cacti, acacia trees and lava lizards. And with views of see points of interest such as an old artillery piece, and, a statue of Charles Darwin.

You will visit a small nearly enclosed lagoon that is perfect t for snorkeling in calm waters, with no waves or current, just underwater rocks where fish and other marine life hang out.

Visit he Interpretation Center and Galapaguera, opened in 1998 to see Giant tortoises in captivity, land birds.  This center   represents the movement to protect the wildlife and natural environment of the Galapagos Islands.

SAM_0509Get some relax in Playa Mann, a white sand beach formed by the fragmentation of shells. The clarity of water allows the practice of snorkeling.

During this tour you will have chances to see many species of birds, sea lions, dolphins, lizards, and to share the water with amazing marine life.

Day 2: San Cristobal

Navigation to Leon Dormido,(Kicker Rock) one of the most spectacular land marks in Galapagos: 2 volcanic rocks 40 meter tall, with a narrow channel between the 2 rocks. This is the resting place of lots of sea lions. And nesting of frigate and blue footed birds.

When arriving to Kicker Rock you will be informed about the site and the snorkeling route. In this place you will have chances to see array of sharks, schools of coloured tropical fish, spotted eagle rays, hammerhead sharks , marine turtles, sea lions.

week_travel_0417After snorkeling we will go to a  quiet white sanded beache, with opportunities to swim with sea lions.

Snack and soft drink will be served during the day.

Time to rest before dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3: San Cristobal – Santa Cruz

primiicasThe afternoon adventure starts with a trip to“Los Gemelos” two
enormous collapsed lava chambers, a wonderful introduction to the majestic power of the forces of nature and the great biodiversity of the Santa Cruz Highlands. This short, easy hike to each of the twins is swarming with endemic flora and fauna, including a remnant of  Scalesia Forest, draped in liverwort, lichens and mosses, where is easy to spot some Darwin finches and perhaps the short eared owls.

Then, take a short bus ride to Primicias, a private reserve where you will see the giant Galapagos tortoises freely roaming, grazing, and sleeping.

Sometimes it’s a bit muddy here, so before setting out, we will provide a selection of field boots (Wellington boots). Walking among the tortoises in wild, will be one of the most treasured moments of your trip.

With a ceiling nearly 20 feet high in most places, here you can see lava stalagmites, stalactites, sulfur, mineral-colored walls, and the rippled floor formed from lava along this unique lava formations.

Day 4: Santa Cruz – Isabela

KayakingKayaking in Canal de Itabaca : You will be instructed about basic techniques on sea kayaking, escorted by a watercraft and guided by a certified specialist to guarantee an outstanding and safe kayaking morning.

Take your kayak and start the journey along the shore of the paradisiacal Santa Cruz Island, enjoying beautiful scenery full of contrasts.

Snorkeling, with high chances to see sea lions, green sea turtles and countless schools of tropical fish.

9RMIL_VIA_ISABELATravel to Isabela (Depending on the number of guest, the travel may be in public or Red Mangrove Transportation) the navigation takes about two hours.   In this navigation you may see marine life such as whales, dolphins, manta rays among others.

Upon Arrival enjoy welcome drink at our deck located in front of this white sand beach.

Day 5: Isabela

IMG_0110Departure to Sierra Negra Volcano. Vehicles of local providers will drive us up through the humid highlands of Isabela, to the slopes of Volcan Sierra Negra, considered the oldest of the volcanoes on Isabela. Then we hike to arrive at the caldera (crater) of Sierra Negra, from where the views are breathtaking!. With 4 miles across (10km), it is the second largest caldera in the world (The largest is Ngorontgoro in Tanzania).

On 22 October 2005 an eruption, that lasted one week, occurred in the northeast side of the caldera of Sierra Negra volcano. The lava flow covered much of the interior of the caldera and in some places rose more than two meters.

After bordering the caldera some 5 kms on and easy trail, will relax a bit and have a snack at a nice resting site under a jaboncillo tree.


For the hardiest of the group, and for those who want to have the opportunity to see one of the most amazing landscapes,  there is an option to continue on an especially difficult one hour walk to Volcan Chico, (this is not an easy hike, it is mostly across sloping lava fields for 2 kms ) just northwest of the caldera where fumarole activity is abundant, and again from here, the landscape is more than spectacular . (Total hike from the starting point to the Volcan Chico area is 8 kms)

Concha PerlaAfter Lunch relax and take a walk in this beautiful place where in liaison with the Galapagos National Park, this property also takes care of giant tortoises under a special granting program that your guides will carefully explain to you.

Get back to the lodge and then take a short ride to the Concha Perla site. Walk among the mangroves for about 150 mts on a board walk, to reach the dock, where you can start snorkeling on this lagoon-like Bay. High opportunities to share the water with sea lions, green turtles, schools of tropical fish and enjoy the beauty of the underwater  scenery.

We will also visit the “Muro de Las Lagrimas” (Wall of Tears), a unique construction built by the backbreaking labor of prisoners of a penal colonycenturies earlier. On the path to the Wall of Tears you will see an abundance of lava lizards-the males are larger and striped and the females red-throated.

Day 6 Isabela

Depart to Los Tuneles,  along this ride we will enjoy seeing the beautiful Galapagos wildlife such us giant mantas rays, sea turtles and more.

We will make a short stop at “Roca Union”where we can see masked boobies, blue footed boobies, marine iguanas, sea lions and occasionally fur seal from the boat.

“Los Tuneles” is a breathtaking site form23Flamingosed by lava arches on the water like labyrinths, where you will ride along this site and try snorkeling, (depends on the sea conditions) experience close encounters with many species of fish, rays, sea turtles and perhaps the Galapagos penguins.

(This activity and time schedule may change according to sea conditions).

Ride through town enjoying the simplicity of this traditional island and search for the Flamingo spots.

Visit the Galapagos National Park Isabela Breeding Station were you will be able to know the different specifies of Galapagos tortoises, the growing process from new borns up to centenary individuals found on this station.

Hike along a beautiful boardwalk for about 45 minutes enjoying part of the Isabela wetlands, with high opportunities to see flamingos and other stunning seabirds.

Before returning to the lodge visit Playa del Amor to feel the magic of this organic sand beach surrounded by mangroves.

Day 7 Isabela –Santa Cruz

tintorerasDeparture to “Las Tintoreras” and Bay Tour.  We will board a small craft to head out across the port, slowing down to view blue-footed boobies and, perhaps Galapagos penguins.

Take an intriguing walk through a jagged lava field, passing abundant colonies of nesting marine iguanas and sea lions, to see a small canal of shallow waters, full of resting white-tipped reef sharks.

The views from here are something you will take with you for the rest of your life !The black, treacherous lava field, the emerald green sea, the green mangroves, and the cloud-capped volcanoes of Isabela, create an afternoon backdrop you are not likely to ever forget.


Once youfinish the walk, you can snorkel in this warm, shallow bay surrounded by mangroves, for an opportunity to see white-tipped reef sharks, sea lions, sea turtles, and, of course, the mystery of the mangrove below the surface. Don’t worry, white-tipped reef sharks are not aggressive, but merely fascinating.

Depart to Santa Cruz. Our navigation will take about 2 to 2.30 hours depending on sea conditions.

Day 8: Santa Cruz –Quito or Guayaquil
